Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (ACH)

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage is a profound and intricate part of Australia's identity, encompassing spiritual traditions, arts, rituals, and community practices that have been passed down through generations. It is a living culture that continues to thrive and evolve. At RFF, we understand the significance of preserving and nurturing this rich heritage, and we are committed to supporting communities across Western Australia in their efforts to protect it. With an empathetic and consultative approach, we work closely with local communities to assess their unique cultural needs and develop strategies to foster the preservation, understanding, and celebration of Aboriginal heritage.

Our team's vast experience encompasses legislative requirements, community consultation, and practical application, ensuring that every service we offer is rooted in respect, knowledge, and genuine collaboration. Through various customized services, including the establishment of Local Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Services (LACHS), conducting surveys, and coordinating applications for protected areas, we strive to create a lasting positive impact on the Aboriginal cultural landscape.

How we can assist

  • Preparation of Readiness Reports: We assist in determining whether to become a Local Aboriginal Heritage Service (LACHS) in accordance with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021.

  • Registration and Establishment of LACHS: We guide the initiation and development of a Local Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Service.

  • Ongoing Operation and Capacity Building of LACHS: Continuous support and training are provided to strengthen the ability of a LACHS to perform its functions effectively.

  • Coordination of ACH Surveys: We coordinate surveys related to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of cultural sites and needs.

  • Negotiating and Agreement-Making on ACH Management Plans: Tailored management plans are created in accordance with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021.

  • Making Submissions to the ACH Council: We act on behalf of clients to make necessary submissions regarding permits and other legalities.

  • Coordinating Applications for Aboriginal Protected Areas or State Significances: We work with local communities to establish protected areas, preserving cultural landmarks and heritage.

Our approach is not merely transactional; we believe in building sustainable relationships with communities, understanding their unique needs, and crafting solutions that align with their heritage and future aspirations.
