Aboriginal Economic Development
At RFF Australia, our aim is to support the development of the local Pilbara and Kimberley communities.
Our presence in the regional communities has granted us the unique opportunity to build much stronger awareness of the rights and interests of Aboriginal people, because Native Title has been legally established over almost the entirety of the Pilbara and Kimberley where primary interests over land and minerals are still held by the Crown in the majority.
It is increasingly evident that First Nations and Aboriginal people are emerging as strong leaders of regional economic growth and social well-being. The formal recognition of Native Title has created a new environment where First Nations are forging a new sustainable pathway for regional communities which can complement, rather than conflict with Aboriginal culture.
We are strongly committed to the advancement of economic development outcomes for First Nations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Economic outcomes, driven through models of empowerment and self-determination are critical to the future prosperity of First Nations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
Regional Australia is the home to a significant proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, and the location of most Native Title determinations which grant exclusive of non-exclusive rights over Country. We support those First Nations to create new economic development opportunities which align with their aspirations, with an implicit desire to develop internal capacity so that longer-term external support is not required.
Our support has extended into the following areas over our ten year period for First Nations:
Strategic Community Planning
Land Use Agreement Negotiations
State Settlement Agreement Negotiations
Cultural Land Use and Economic Land Use Planning for Country
Land Management Planning
Tenure and Land Access
Social Enterprise development
Funding applications and Grant applications
Our experiences have taught us how to be agile and responsive, enabling us to adjust our approach to suit your requirements as needed.
