Our Projects
Cockatoo Island Airstrip
CLIENT: Cockatoo Is.
Cockatoo Island NK5 Group Pty Ltd acquired the Crown Lease to Alan Bond’s former Cockatoo Island Resort in the Buccaneer Archipelago. With plans to recommence operations as a resort, securing legal access to the Island’s airstrip was critical to its success.
The Island is subject to unique and complex tenure including complex Native Title and multiple overlapping Mining Tenements, as well as Unallocated Crown Land. Our team led an extensive - but coordinated - consultation and engagement process with all affected stakeholders on the Island. Securing agreement for a new licence over the airstrip and enabling its use by the Resort lease holders. This was achieved by methodically addressing the key risks identified by each stakeholder and developing a collaborative, positive working relationship within all tiers of Government.
As a result, GO Beyond Broome commenced operations to the Island in 2018 and recommencement of the resort operations will be expected by mid-2019.
